I started with Areas as a part time cashier and today I am the Director of Design and Construction. It didn’t happen overnight, but I worked hard, had the right talent, and Areas kept giving me opportunities to reach the next level.

I was born and raised in Iraq and came to this country after the War. I had a degree in electrical engineering but needed to go back to school to get a job in the field here. I went to drafting school in the mornings, worked part-time then full-time at Areas and eventually became a manager.

One day the Vice President of Operations came for a visit and found out I had a degree in engineering. He happened to have construction plans with him and asked if I could read them. I not only read them but gave him pointers about how to make them better.

That meeting changed my career forever. Yes, big dreams really do come true at Areas.

I have been with Areas for over 12 years. I was first hired as a supervisor then moved to management six months later. Since then, I have been Assistant Concept Manager, Concept Manager, Multiunit Manager, General Manager, and Guest Services Manager. Two years ago, I was promoted to Regional Director of Operations.

I have worked in many different positions in my four years at Areas’ Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport location. I started as an hourly admin, became the Guest Experience manager, ran one of the restaurants, got promoted to Concourse Manager and now am the acting General Manager!

One of my favorite things about my journey at Areas is that there is always opportunity for growth and development. The fun part for me is being able to come to work every day and see the smiling faces of my teams, feel their energy, and do what I can to support them to make our company stay positive and be profitable.
