One exciting new store, The King Center, is a tribute to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is an extension of the local King Center in the city of Atlanta, which serves as a global resource dedicated to educating the world on the life, legacy and teachings of Dr. King.
The new store is something the airport has long desired for its passengers, according to Linda Tolleson, Director of Merchandising. “I have nurtured this relationship for a long time, and I am so excited that the King family chose Areas to bring Dr. King’s dream and passion to life for ATL travelers.”
The ATL King Center is expected to open by the end of this year and will feature the same merchandise visitors enjoy in the nearby King Center gift shop, including the latest book by Bernice King, Dr. King’s daughter. “I am especially excited that she has already agreed to do a book signing in the ATL store. This is something very special for ATL travelers, and only Areas can make it happen,” says Linda.
In Terminal D the airport is introducing a new Vera Bradley store with a Pure Vida feature wall. An emerging fashion jewelry and accessories brand, Pura Vida is gaining tremendous popularity for its simplicity, purpose, and wearability. This reconcept replaces the existing Orange Optics location and is expected to open on or about November 1.
Recently opened is a Bijou Terner store, transformed from what was once a luggage store. “With prices ranging from $15 to ‘2 for $25’, both customers and employees have been very receptive,” says Linda. As a result of the reconcept, this location is already showing a significant improvement in sales.
It has been a long time coming and many frustrations along the way, especially the lack of available staff necessary to open the stores, notes Linda.
But she says, “It’s an exciting time for Areas on the retail side of the business. We now get to showcase a program that is locally relevant and beneficial to the airport and our customers.”
