The Bayside Community Network has a dedicated staff that combines training, education, therapy and a positive learning environment to enable persons with disabilities to become independent. Areas has proudly employed 49 people who benefit from Bayside Community Network’s services since partnering with them in 2012.
“Investing in our community means investing in our people. Giving back means more than just collecting donations or raising awareness. Through partnerships with organizations like the Bayside Community Network, we can provide real opportunities. This is how we experience first hand being a part of our neighborhood,” said Xavier Rabell, CEO of Areas North America.
Said Carlos de Jesus, Areas Maryland Director of Operations, “Our satisfaction at Areas is living our promise to make a difference in our communities. Giving back is a privilege and a gift for all of us.”
Along with the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), which owns the two travel plazas, Areas hosted the check presentation event at the Maryland House in Aberdeen, MD. Several community partners were present. Executives from the Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of Harford County and Habitat for Humanity, as well as Bayside Community Network spoke about their partnership with Areas and the impact the company has on local communities. Guests visiting the plaza showed their support during the event. Phillips Seafood, a noted local brand in the plaza, provided hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.
“Thanks to the leadership of our private-sector partner Areas and the generosity of Maryland travel-plaza customers, what started with money donation boxes at the Chesapeake House has blossomed into a milestone in giving,” said Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Deputy Executive Director Deb Sharpless. “The men and women of the MDTA are proud of Areas’ commitment to making such a huge impact in the local community, not only by partnering with the Bayside Community Network, but also with Habitat for Humanity, the Edgewood Boys & Girls Clubs and many other non-profit groups.”
“It feels so good to have the Maryland Transportation Authority and Areas as partners in envisioning a world where all people are valued and supported to live fulfilling lives,” said Karl Guldner, Director of Bayside Community Network.
