All the while he felt a strong connection to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Opening this store was special to me because Morehouse College was my alma mater and Martin Luther King is one of our most famous alumni,” explains Matthew. “In a special way, I feel like I am honoring my fellow alumni and I feel good about being associated with a company like Areas that is spearheading a concept like this. It is touching and something I do not take lightly.”
It is fitting that the All ATL store debuted at the airport since Dr. King is one of Georgia’s own and the store is an extension of the King Center located in Atlanta. Established in 1968 by Coretta Scott King, the Center is a living memorial dedicated to the advancement of the work and legacy of her late husband.
The All ATL store aims to cultivate a beloved community mindset by promoting peaceful movements through its book sales such as, “Be Love” and “It starts with me” where injustices cease and love prevails. Matthew thoughtfully explains, “Be Love is a big movement. In Dr. King’s speeches, he talked about being loved, being inclusive and that love is a common thread despite our differences in religion or race.” The concept acknowledges that if we want true change in our communities, we should show it throughout our daily lives. Inside the store, you will find Bernice King’s book “It starts with me” for both children and adults. Hard goods, tote bags and mugs are also included among the variety of officially licensed and branded King Center merchandise only available in All ATL, that you won’t find in other stores at the airport.
“It is quite an honor to open the store at our airport,” says Matthew. “It is in a place where it should be”. The All ATL store is located in concourse D. “This is truly a win for all stakeholders and the cause of equality.”
