Okahumpka Service Plaza opened their completely renovated 11,000 square foot facility on October 30th, 2015. The plaza had not been updated since 1988. Okahumpka is the northernmost stop on the Florida Turnpike mainline located at Mile Marker 299. An estimated 1.1 million travelers stop at Okahumpka Service Plaza each year.
“We are proud of opening this state-of-the-art facility to service our guests along the Florida Turnpike,” said Xavier Rabell, CEO of Areas USA. “Road trips have their unique pleasures, and modern, comfortable facilities along the way are an integral part of the experience.”
The service plaza is also the latest in a long list of LEED certified buildings FLTP service plazas. Areas USA began the renovation and operation of 8 plazas along the Florida Turnpike in 2009. The inspiration was to focus on a modern design which incorporated nature, and was environmentally sound. To date, all the completed plazas have earned gold or silver LEED certification. Okahumpka earned the gold certification.
Areas USA’s statewide project also offers travelers various amenities at all their stops. Millions of cars travel along the Florida Turnpike each year, and these road trippers can be assured to find everything they’ll need. Along with rest areas, gas, and concessions, the Okahumpka Plaza offers free wi-fi, and outlets to charge electronics. There is also a pet-friendly area outside for traveler’s furry friends to stretch their legs.
Up next is the final plaza to be renovated, the Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce Service Plaza at Mile Marker 144.
